Matty Done’s fourth goal in three games since joining Sheffield United sealed a 2-1 victory over Notts County this evening.
Done, a deadline day signing from Rochdale, tapped in from close range to put United ahead in the second half.
Jamie Murphy’s superb strike - his fifth in six games - had earlier put United 1-0 up ahead before the hosts hit back to level before half time, when Liam Noble back-heeled home after County benefitted from a huge slice of good fortune with a deflection in the build up.
County, who had enjoyed a good spell of pressure after their equaliser, began the second half on the front foot and Iain Turner had to be alert to prevent them going ahead in the opening skirmishes of the second period.
Marc McNulty replaced Louis Reed as Nigel Clough sought a spark in his side’s play, with Matty Done pushed out onto the right wing.
Kieron Freeman then replaced the goalscorer, with Craig Alcock coming on for Jason Holt.
United made two changes for this evening’s match at Meadow Lane with Holt and Reed replacing Jose Baxter and Jay McEveley. Clough included two former County players - Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Kieron Freeman - on the visitors’ bench while Turner continued in goal as Mark Howard continues to recover from a back injury.
