Jay O'Shea is aiming to add another promotion to his CV after agreeing a move to Bury.

The attacking midfielder, who played a later part in Sheffield United's rise to the Championship, has signed a two-year deal at Gigg Lane

With his contract at Chesterfield running out at the end of the season, O'Shea moved on loan to Bramall Lane in the January transfer window and scored three goals in 10 appearances as United ended their exile from the second tier.

O'Shea was offered a two-year contract by Blades boss Chris Wilder but the former Republic of Ireland under 21 international turned that down and has since joined Lee Clark's men.

Wilder said at the time: “We offered Jay a good two-year deal but he has exercised his right to turn it down and look elsewhere. We thank him for his contribution in the second half of the season and wish him all the best for the future.”

Now O'Shea has his eye on another promotion from League One.

“It would be nice to replicate what happened at Sheffield United here next season" he told Bury's website. "It's going to be a tough league, but the Gaffer is trying to put together a strong enough side to challenge for the top six and, hopefully, that's what we'll do.

“I want to be playing every week, so when I got the chance to come to the club and, hopefully, play a lot of games next season, that was a big reason for me coming here. I'm just looking forward to getting started.”

Clarke said Bury beat off competition from other league One sides to capture O'Shea who made his name as a free-scoring midfielder at the Proact.

“I am thrilled to have captured Jay.," said Clark. "It's been a long time coming and it's meant some hard work, but it's been worth it. He's had a lot of interest from other clubs after having a fantastic end to the season with League One champions, Sheffield United. Each game he played in they never lost.

“He's a creator and a scorer of goals, and he proved that at both Chesterfield and Sheffield United. He's an exciting and impactful player who can play just off a striker or out wide.

“It's really exciting to have a player of his quality - a signing like this shows that we are targeting the right type of player.”
