DANNY Wilson, the Sheffield United manager, has insisted that recent results will have no bearing upon the outcome of Sunday’s Steel City derby.
Sheffield Wednesday travel to Bramall Lane looking to post their fifth victory in succession while United, despite making an encouraging start to the campaign, are looking to avoid a third straight League One defeat.
But Wilson said: “They say the form book goes out of the window in derby games and I think it’s true.
“I’m never one for looking at what’s happened before when I’m preparing for one.
“They’re completely different games to the others that you play throughout the course of a season.
“The atmosphere is completely different for a start and because it’s so intense that makes it even more impossible to predict how things are going to unfold.”
Wilson added: “Things happen. One decision can make all the difference in these games.”
With that in mind, United’s coaching staff will remind players of their responsibilities when they gather for their final training session at Shirecliffe tomorrow.
Wilson said: “We want to be fired up and it’s impossible not to get excited.
“We also need a calmness about us though.
“But when we get out there who knows what is going to happen?”
