Danny’s joy as United keep star men
SHEFFIELD United manager Danny Wilson last night described himself as “absolutely delighted” after his promotion-chasing squad remained intact during the transfer window.
Despite fears a string of key names would depart Bramall Lane before Tuesday’s deadline for new signings, Wilson instead strengthened the options at his disposal by capturing striker Will Hoskins on loan.
With United travelling to Colchester tomorrow fourth in the League One table, the former Northern Ireland international admitted he appreciates the need to reduce expenditure behind the scenes, but said: “I understand the economic reasons. They were outlined to me when I came here (in May) and I agreed with that. But, from a footballing point of view, I’m very glad its not happened now.
“The players have taken a lot of confidence from what happened too.”
Privately, United’s board of directors resolved to restructure the club’s finances over the course of a 12 to 18-month period in response to last season’s relegation from the Championship.
But a combination of factors appear to have postponed that process, with Wilson adding: “We’ve been doing well and there’s been nothing from anybody here saying they want to go. Nobody has ever indicated they are of that mind whatsoever.”
