Credit to United for not losing players in window
The aftermath of the big transfer deadline day...
Well, in all honesty, it wasn’t that big and so there really wasn’t that much aftermath.
We should have called it the relatively quiet D-Day.
I always find it quite amusing considering the buzz that is created around it.
I think football manager’s must laugh sometimes at all the hysteria and rumours around their clubs which are so far removed from reality.
I’m sure Danny Wilson is one of those.
I have to say I was pretty pleased and relieved when 11pm hit especially with the worry of fragmenting Sheffield United’s current healthy squad. Respect to the board and Wilson for keeping the Blades’ promotion hopes well and truly alive.
So to United’s incoming move, the loan of Will Hoskins from Brighton.
A hidden gem? A goal scorer?
I’d say yes; if Wilson can keep him injury free.
The striker struggled to make an impact at Brighton and hasn’t scored a goal since August 17, 2011, in a 3-1 win at Cardiff City.
However this could be perfect timing for the Blades, Hoskins has just got back from injury and is desperate to regain his form and start banging in some goals.
Several times I’ve heard Hoskins described as one of the best strikers in the division and that is the Championship, never mind League One.
The back of the net is exactly what needs to be United’s focus.
Our boss has got the Blades playing decent, enjoyable football and the sort of game that a player like Hoskins will thrive in.
There is barely a cigarette paper between the teams chasing Charlton Athletic - as Wilson described our current position.
And bringing in a striker with potential like Hoskins is the exact right step the club need to be taking if promotion is to be ours.
Next up in our campaign is a trip away to mid-table Colchester United followed by a home fixture to bottom of the league Wycombe Wanderers.
In theory that should mean a full set of points before the Blades travel to rivals Huddersfield Town who are unbeaten in their last eight.
Back in September, Sheffield United comfortably beat the U’s but funnily enough United have never in history beaten them at Colchester in the league. Let’s go and spoil John Ward’s wonderful symmetry of winning nine, losing nine and drawing nine in their season so far.
The League One table is too unnerving to do anything but...

Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 10:45 AMDiesel's right boys. These players are on wages well above their worth (Birmingham result suggests this) Who would want to pay PremChampionship wages for above average League one players? Again it's just not a dig but bare faced facts.

Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 10:11 AMMorning D, thought I might find you lusting after Charlie's picture. The players we are trying to off load would be ideal for Wendy but as you rightly say, the wages couldn't be matched else where. DW will just have to persevere with these long ball specialists and hope he can influence change.

Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 09:25 AM@2 That is what I am saying, they are not worth their current wages and therefore would not get them anywhere else.
