Sheffield United have claimed some notable scalps this season, especially on route to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
But manager Nigel Clough revealed earlier this month that he has derived just as much pleasure from beating such as Colchester and Crawley Town as Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Aston Villa.
Why? Because, despite watching his team progress through six rounds of the world’s most prestigious domestic knockout competition, regaining Championship status remains the former England international’s most important objective at Bramall Lane.
“If we are going to try and get promoted next season,” Clough, who has steadfastly refused to entertain the prospect of making a late push for the play-offs, said. “then we are going to have to go to places like those and win.”
