Nigel Clough believes a run of home comforts can help Sheffield United cement their place in League One’s top six.

But ahead of three successive games at Bramall Lane, Clough has warned United fans not to take nine points for granted from matches against Port Vale, Scunthorpe and Crewe.

Speaking after Tuesday’s 1-1 draw away at Walsall, Clough said: “It’s disappointing not to have got the three points but we’re unbeaten in six games away from home now, and it’s two defeats in ten in total.

“We’re staying in the top six without really winning, soon we will win a game and then hopefully go on a little run and cement our place.

“Three home games gives us a great chance to do that, but we can’t take it for granted.

“Not many teams will win three games on the spin, no matter where they are. But we’ll try and get three points on Saturday and then see where we are from there.”

Mark Howard returned to the United line-up against Walsall following a back injury and Clough said: “It was a bit of a risk to play him, and a bit harsh on Iain [Turner].

But Mark is our number one and if he’s fit, he’ll play.”
