Blades ready to brave the heat

SHEFFIELD United will not buckle under the pressure of a League One promotion battle, winger Ryan Flynn vowed last night.

Instead, the former Scotland under-19 international predicted his teammates will thrive on the tension as they attempt to deliver Championship football to Bramall Lane.

Flynn said: “Pressure games are what you play football for. There’s a buzz around them and that should bring out the best in you.

“If you don’t like being in these situations then you probably shouldn’t be involved in the game because everyone wants to win things.

“I don’t have any worries about the lads here folding.

“Everyone is keyed up and focused on doing well.”

Flynn, a signing from Falkirk, will use the experience he gleaned during his spell in the Forth Valley to steel him for the challenge of helping his new employers bounce back from last season’s relegation.

Flynn’s penultimate season with Steven Pressley’s side was spent battling to stay in the Scottish Premier League.

“Believe me, the pressure of trying to go up is a lot better,” Flynn added. “It’s completely different because it’s the type of pressure you can enjoy.”

United, who are fourth in the table, had been scheduled to face Colchester at the Weston Homes Community Stadium today, but the match was yesterday postponed due to a frozen pitch.

A new date has yet to be re-arranged.
