Blades line up more Beattie talks
SHEFFIELD United and James Beattie will return to the negotiating table this week in an effort to prolong the former England international’s stay at Bramall Lane.
The League One club, who last night confirmed they will not appeal Beattie’s sending-off during Saturday’s match at Charlton Athletic, revealed the 33-year-old has received “other offers” since returning to South Yorkshire in November.
However, the fact that both parties plan to hold another round of talks before this weekend’s FA Cup tie with Birmingham City suggests Beattie’s preferred option is to remain with Danny Wilson’s side.
The striker met with members of United’s board in London on Friday when proposals detailing pay and other prospective terms and conditions were discussed.
Beattie’s dismissal for violent conduct towards the end of a controversial defeat at The Valley means he is suspended for the visit of Chris Hughton’s side.
Wilson, the United manager, hinted Beattie had been approached by teams “from outside of this country,” after describing referee Darren Deadman’s decision to dismiss him as “pathetic”.
Should Beattie pen an extended contract with United, he is also scheduled to miss the forthcoming games against Colchester and Wycombe Wanderers but would be eligible for selection when they travel to second-placed Huddersfield Town on February 14.
The ban can not be immediately be enforced if he moves outside of the Football Association’s jurisdiction but would instead lay on file until he resumed his career in England.
