Sheffield United have this afternoon confirmed the loan signing of Paddy McCarthy from Crystal Palace, as revealed this morning by The Star.
The Crystal Palace defender, is poised to make his debut at Chesterfield tomorrow after travelling to South Yorkshire last night to agreea monthlong emergency loan.
However, sources close to Selhurst Park, where former United manager Neil Warnock took charge five weeks ago, have indicated the arrangement could be extended until January if it proves a success.
The Premier League club are also thought to be subsidising a significant portion of McCarthy’s wages for the duration of his stay with Nigel Clough’s side.
United are known to have fought off competition from a host of Championship clubs to secure the 31-year-old’s services.
McCarthy, who started his career at Manchester City before representing Leicester City and Charlton Athletic, has made two appearances for Palace since August.
Both of those came in the Capital One Cup, against Walsall and Newcastle.
