The event, hosted by the BBC’s Harry Gration, saw a Sheffield United team led by Blades club captain, Billy Sharp, take on a Yorkshire County Cricket side captained by county cricket legend Andrew Gale in a mock-up of the popular BBC quiz show, A Question of Sport.

Yorkshire defeated the Blades on a tie-breaker after the quiz ended level, and as well as Gale featured current playing colleagues and Yorkshire cricket stars Tim Bresnan, Richard Pyrah, Steve Patterson, Jack Leaning and Jared Warner.

Captained by Sharp, the United team consisted of current manager Chris Wilder and stars Ethan Ebanks-Landell and Chris Basham, as well as former defensive star Tony Kenworthy and the Blades’ greatest-ever player, Tony Currie.

All funds raised by the event, which also featured an auction of United and YCCC-related memorabilia, went to the Sheffield United Former Players Association and Andrew Gale’s benefit year charities.

The quiz was provided by Sheffield United together with Club partner Redtooth, and took place in Bramall Lane’s TC 10 Suite.

The latest quiz technology was on show, including video and animation, and the event also included well-known Question of Sport features such ‘observation’ and ‘what happened next’ rounds.

Dave McCarthy, Operations Director at Sheffield United, said: “The Question of Sport-style quiz was a fantastic event and it’s brilliant that we managed to raise so much for two great causes.

“We’re extremely pleased with how much the event raised for two great causes, and we’re very grateful to Billy, Andrew, Harry and every team member, who gave up their time to take part.”

“We’d also like to thank Redtooth – their knowledge and expertise of the very latest in quiz technology played a huge role in making this event as successful as it could possibly be.”
