Sheffield United went into tonight’s game at Gillingham with a new addition on the bench, and he saw them pick up three valuable points.
United included Ben Davies, signed on loan from Derby County until the end of the season.
And he witnessed his new side go in at half-time in front through Conor Coady.
United had threatened on 39 minutes when a shot from Porter from close range hit the post.
But a couple of minutes later they made the breakthrough when Coady fired home into the bottom corner.
Doyle was too hight with an effort at the start of the second half but it was a 45 minutes dominated by United.
It was back to League One action for United after the FA Cup victory over Nottingham Forest.
United have been ordered to draw a line under their recent cup exploits with manager Nigel Clough describing their victory over fellow strugglers Shrewsbury Town earlier this month as more important than the win over Forest.
