And Blades skipper Billy Sharp was on hand to congratulate the Canadian-born striker, with a cheeky tweet referencing Lavery's move across the Steel City from rivals Wednesday.

Sharp, a boyhood Blades fan, wrote on Twitter: "Buzzing for you @clavery13. You are no longer a pig... you're officially a Blade."

Predictably, the tweet went down equally as well with Unitedites as it did badly amongst Wednesday fans. Lavery was released by Wednesday in the summer, before joining United after a fee was agreed for his services.

Lavery later tweeted himself: "Happy to get my first goal for SUFC! Wasn't the cleanest of strikes but I'll take it! Big well done to the lads and MOTM Mark Duffy."
