sheffield United have been warned not to slip up against teams such as Saturday’s opponents Wycombe by one of the Blades’ most famous ex-players.

Keith Edwards, who follows United home and away in his role as a match summariser on local radio, says nothing can be overlooked if the team are to contend for an automatic promotion position.

He said: “It’s important to win the matches that your opponents will be winning. It’s games like these that are the difference between the top two and the play-offs. Yes, Wycombe are a banana skin but the way we have been playing of late, passing the ball around well, we should win.”

Although United and Wycombe’s league positions are at the opposite end of the table, the Chairboys did inflict the first away league defeat of the season on Danny Wilson’s team in September.

Edwards, who scored 171 goals for the Blades in 293 starts during the late 70s and early 80s, said the team has improved since then. He said: “The Wycombe game was during a difficult patch. We dropped points at Leyton Orient too.

“Since then Danny Wilson has tightened things up and even though we have lost the last two matches the performances have been there. I’m a big believer that if you keep the quality of your performances high, then the results will come.”

Defeats at Charlton in League One and at home against Birmingham City in the FA Cup, along with last Saturday’s match at Colchester being postponed, means it is nearly a month since United last had the winning feeling.

Edwards is confident the Blades will prevail at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

He said: “It’s hard work for the opposition when the ball is being passed around. Michael Doyle and Kevin McDonald need a lot of praise for the way they have been playing.”

We could do with winning this game by half time, the big game is on Tuesday . No injuries or daft sending offs and hope that rhodes leg falls off against Orient as i'm sure they would be 10 points worse off without him. The porkers have tricky games coming up, the Stevenage game on Tuesday will be a real football fest hoof ball at its finest and lets hope Exceter end up with at least a point, dropped points at Chezzi will set them up well for the derby.

The intelligent amongst us (and believe it or not there are a few from Sheffield!) are aware that pigs the animal are intelligent creatures. I think that most neutrals seeing the often infantile, generally foul mouthed cretinous abuse posted on here would think that pigs would be have to be far more intelligent than the vast majority posting on here.

We are much more solid than the last time we played them as Mr Edwards points out. Hope the break hasn't left us a bit rusty, need to hit the ground running, get a draw against Hud, beat Preston and the smash the Pigs. Lovely.

I would like to praise Keith Edwards for his honest, balanced and insightful commentary on Utd's games, but I can't. He epitomises pig mentality

Don't pigs eat banana skins? Why else would the Star put a pig story on here? It's the best way to get their fans to comment.
