Second loss on trot for jaded Belles

DONCASTER Rovers Belles paid the price for their worst display of the season when going down 1-0 in their FA Women’s Super League clash at Bristol Academy yesterday.

A goal by Loren Dykes seven minutes from time earned the WFA Cup finalists their first WSL win and sentenced Belles to a second successive defeat.

To add to Belles’ problems, veteran midfielder Vicky Exley came off with a hamstring injury and looks set to miss Wednesday’s home game against Liverpool at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Exley had earlier gone closest to breaking the deadlock from a 55th minute free-kick, which the Bristol keeper did well to save.

It was one of the few occasions that Belles, who were previously unbeaten on their travels in the WSL, looked like scoring.

“It was a terrible game,” said Belles’ boss John Buckley.

“We never turned up whereas they were good in the first 20 minutes then after that the game was dire.

“We just looked jaded throughout, but a four-hour plus coach journey on the day of the match is not ideal preparation. But we’ve no money and we can’t afford to stop overnight.”
