Former Barnsley number one David Watson has joined the new coaching set-up at Southampton.
The Saints officially announced Watson as goalkeeping coach and Sammy Lee as assistant at St Mary’s yesterday.
Watson heads to Southampton after leaving relegated Norwich, where he worked closely with England goalkeeper John Ruddy. He was also part of Roy Hodgson’s backroom staff with the national team.
Southampton executive director Les Reed said: “Despite his relatively young age, Dave has already built up an impressive CV and is regarded as one of the most talented goalkeeping coaches in Europe, and has only just returned from the World Cup finals.”
Watson made almost 200 appearances for Barnsley in a ten year spell.
