U2 concert raises Millers game doubt

ROTHERHAM United are hopeful they won't have to move their second home game of the new season.

The fixtures which came out yesterday give them a home game on Saturday, August 22 against Rochdale.

However, two nights earlier, the Don Valley Stadium is the venue for a sell-out concert by U2, one of only two English venues during the supergroup's Europe and world tour.

The removal of the vast amount of equipment used will be completed the following day and the club say they have assurances everything will be in order for Rotherham's game to go ahead 36 hours later.

"Obviously there is concern that there might be some damage to the pitch with concert goers using it although it would be well protected," said Rotherham's Chief Operating Officer Paul Douglas.

"But we have been given assurances that the pitch will be ready and ok for us on the Saturday. Hopefully, that will be the case. At the moment we play Rochdale on that date but we will continue to monitor matters and liaise with the stadium authorities. We don't want to have to move it.

"We have a midweek game on the Tuesday but it is away at Grimsby. Certainly we could not have staged a home game two nights before U2 were due there purely due to the amount of preparation time they require."
