Taylor made to shine at Rotherham

SO FAR, so good is Jason Taylor's assessment of his and Rotherham United's start to the 2010/11 campaign.

It seemed Taylor's career at the Don Valley Stadium was destined to come to an end when he was farmed out on loan to Rochdale last winter.

The industrious midfielder featured 23 times for Dale, who clinched the third automatic promotion spot behind Notts County and Bournemouth in League Two.

But after his loan deal expired at Spotland, Taylor returned to Rotherham in the summer and was ordered to prove his worth by manager Ronnie Moore.

The 23-year-old responded immediately to Moore's rallying cry by forcing his way into the starting eleven. Indeed, Taylor's contribution in the centre has been impressive, and he was arguably the club's stand out performer in the 1-0 defeat at fellow promotion contenders Shrewsbury on Saturday.

Taylor told The Star: "I'm happy to be back playing and in the side. I have started well and hopefully I can nail down my place.

"I don't mind doing any job as long as I'm playing in a winning team. I've just comeback from Rochdale, knuckled down and worked hard.

"I have always been confident in my own ability. I just want to be playing and if the manager thinks that I'm the right person to do a job then great. But there is still a long way to go so I need to keep on producing to keep my place."

Although he is in the final year of his contract, Taylor is concentrating on spearheading Rotherham's promotion charge.

"My plan is to get my head down, play as well as I can and those things (contract) will take care of themselves," he said. "It is a long season but I've been happy with how things have gone so far."

Former Stockport player Taylor has struck up a promising partnership with Danny Harrison in the middle of the park for Rotherham.

Taylor feels the link-up play between the two will continue to develop as the year unfolds.

"I think game by game we are getting used to playing together," he said. "The understanding is getting better and I think both Danny and I have been putting in some good performances.

"He chipped in with a goal against Cheltenham and it is important that we (the midfielders) get amongst the goals if the team are going to be successful."
