Sacking of Moore 'hell of a shock'
Rotherham United assistant manager John Breckin has admitted that it came as 'a hell of a shock' to learn of Ronnie Moore's sacking at Tranmere Rovers.
Breckin, was a team-mate and assistant to Moore during his player and manager spells at Rotherham (player 1980–1983; manager 1997–2005) and said that Moore’s departure was a bolt out of the blue.
“It was a hell of a shock at the time, but nothing surprises me any more in football.
“I was on Ronnie’s stag do at the weekend, so it came at a bad time really,” said Breckin.
Moore, who had been at Prenton Park for three seasons, has left the Birkenhead club after missing out on the play-offs. A late equaliser for Scunthorpe against Moore’s men meant that the Iron clinched the last play-off spot.
Breckin doesn’t expect to see Moore, aged 56, out of the game for long. “Ronnie will take it on the chin and be back soon - that’s football,” he said.
n Breckin said three or four trialists are expected to try their luck at Don Valley in pre-season.
