New contract reward for Millers ace

Rotherham United striker Reuben Reid is set to be offered a new contract after enjoying an impressive first season at Don Valley.

The hitman bagged 18 league goals and this triggered reported Championship interest from the likes of Derby County.

Assistant boss John Breckin said: "When clubs are looking at your players it shows you're doing a good job. It's better than clubs not looking at your players."

Although the interest in Reid appears high, and the Millers would be reluctant to miss out on a sizeable fee from potential suitors, Breckin says he is "confident" that Reid will sign a new deal.

Contract talks are believed to be at an early stage between manager Mark Robins, Reid and Reid's agent.

The Bristol-born striker has a further year to run on his current deal after joining from Plymouth Argyle last summer.

Reid, aged 20, has enjoyed a new lease of life under Mark Robins after his career stalled in Devon.

The striker had five different loan spells while a youngster at Home Park and seems to have finally found a home at Rotherham.

Breckin also announced that fitness coach Nick Daws has thoroughly planned the pre-season schedule, which will ensure that the returning players are fit and ready for the new campaign.
