Millers swoop for Griffiths

Rotherham United have boosted their defensive options by bringing in left-back Scott Griffiths on-loan from Peterborough United for the rest of the season.

Griffiths has previously had two loan spells at Chesterfield which saw him make over 30 appearances for the Spireites as they won promotion to League One.

The 26-year-old began his career at Essex side Aveley, ironically also known as the Millers, before making over 200 appearances for Dagenham and Redbridge.

After a loan stint with The Posh, he signed for them permanently in 2010 but has since spent much of his time out on loan at Crawley Town as well as Chesterfield.

“I got a call (from Andy Scott) and then I spoke to my agent and here I am,” said Griffiths.

“This season has been a bit of a journey for me. I started off training at Peterborough, then had a month on loan at Crawley, then came back and had a month at Chesterfield.

“It would be nice to stay in one place now, which I had last year, because travelling up and down constantly can take its toll, so it’s nice to have some stability.”

Rotherham were interested in the services of the full-back in the summer.

“I had plans already in place at the start of the season but then I heard about the move again a couple of days ago, and everything got organised fairly quickly,” Griffiths added.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday have farmed out teenage goalkeeper Sean Cuff to Blue Square Premier side Cambridge United for one-month.

The 18-year-old has regularly appeared for the Owls’ under-18 side, but has yet to make a first-team appearance.

Cuff will provide back-up to senior shot-stopper Danny Naisbitt

U’s boss Jez George is delighted to have Cuff on board.

“Wednesday have kindly agreed to keep paying his wages,” he said.

“He will give us short-term cover and someone to work with Danny everyday in training.”

Wednesday are spoilt for choice in the goalkeeping department, with Nicky Weaver, Stephen Bywater, Richard O’Donnell and Arron Jameson on their books.
