Millers striker happy to shut that window!
Staying put: Lewis Grabban looking to chip in with more goals
WITH a striker in their ranks who has become coveted by other clubs, Rotherham United will be eyeing up the closing of the transfer window in a few days time.
However, it appears that top scorer Lewis Grabban is heading off nowhere - for now anyway.
The striker, aware of the interest in him, has intimated he is staying with the Millers as they look to get their season back on course after slipping off the pace in the play-off chase.
“I want to do my best for the football club, the gaffer got me here and has given me an opportunity,” he said. “Things have gone well for me and we all want the club to be successful.”
Manager Andy Scott insists the talk surrounding Grabban about interest from elsewhere has not affected the 24-year-old.
“He’s aware of the interest but knows we want him to stay and he wants to stay, at least to the end of the season, and do his best for the club,” said Scott.
“What we need to do is ensure we give him, and anyone up front, the best possible supply line to get the goals that he has shown he can get and we know he is capable of.
“We didn’t do it anywhere near as well as we could last Saturday and it’s something we have to improve on.”
League Two promotion chasers Crawley Town have had a £100,000 bid for Grabban rejected by Rotherham and there has been speculation about interest from Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday based on both clubs watching him although Scott says neither club have spoken to him.
Meanwhile, the Millers got some of their squad players into action in a friendly against Doncaster Rovers.
This meant that Ryan Cresswell and Mark Bradley were able to get some game-time after their lengthy absences.
Cresswell, who scored in the 2-1 win, has been out since September whilst Bradley hasn’t played since October although he has been amongst the substitutes in the past couple of weeks.
On Saturday, Rotherham go to Dagenham who were beaten 1-0 at Torquay on Tuesday to remain second-bottom.
