Millers loan star eager to play his part
PATIENCE is a virtue for Rotherham United striker Marcus Marshall.
The 20-year-old, on-loan from Premier League outfit Blackburn, has yet to make his first full start since arriving at the Don Valley Stadium in January.
Millers boss Ronnie Moore has preferred to partner Tom Pope alongside the division's leading goal-scorer Adam Le Fondre, opting to utilise Marshall as an impact substitute player.
Marshall, a graduate of Rovers youth system, has been unleashed off the bench nine times on the flanks and up front.
With Nicky Law and Kevin Ellison producing inconsistent performances on the wings in recent months, Marshall is in contention to make his first Millers start when Moore's side travel to Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday.
Marshall says he was "nervous" when he first joined Moore's automatic promotion hopefuls and told The Star: "I didn't find it easy at first but I feel settled now; the lads have been great with me.
"Now I just want to win a place in the side and start playing on a regular basis. I don't mind where I play as long as I am in the team.
"It has been frustrating being on the bench but I just have to keep my head down and wait for my chance."
Marshall, who has made one senior appearance for Blackburn, earned his loan switch to Rotherham after impressing Moore during a trial spell.
He has trained with Moore's men throughout his loan stint while Blackburn's reserve team manager, Ian Brunskill, has also kept monitoring his progress.
Marshall, whose contract is set to expire at Blackburn in the summer, said: "Hopefully, if things go well, I could stay at Rotherham.
"Everyone has been brilliant with me and I am really enjoying it at the club."
Moore is renowned for being one of the greatest strikers in Rotherham's history and Marshall believes he is benefiting from working under his wing.
"He gives me constructive criticism all the time on where I need to improve my game and is really helping me in my career," he said.
