Millers youngster told to produce training form in matches
RYAN Taylor has been dubbed Rotherham United's best player... on the training ground.
Now manager Ronnie Moore has challenged Taylor to provide him with a striking dilemma on match-day.
Taylor is on the fringes of fourth-placed Rotherham's first XI and last started a league game in early September.
The 21-year-old, a graduate of the club's youth system, made his senior debut four years ago but has been unable to hold down a regular starting berth at Don Valley Stadium.
Taylor, who is yet to score this term, is behind top-scorer Adam Le Fondre, Drewe Broughton and Tom Pope in the pecking order.
Moore is also thought to be scouring the loan market for a targetman ahead of next Thursday's deadline after having an approach rebuffed for Leeds' Enoch Showunmi last week.
But the Rotherham chief insists Taylor will get his chance to force his way into his long-term plans and told The Star: "It is coming to a stage where we have to see whether Ryan will develop.
"He is our best player by miles in training so if he can reproduce that form on the big stage then we have got a hell of a player.
"Ryan isn't brilliant in the air but he is quick and has a great left foot so the time is going to come sooner rather than later when we have to see what the kid is about and what he can do.
"If he can take the confidence that he shows in training on to the big stage, then it might be that we are looking for a right winger rather than a centre forward.
"Ryan is on the bench nearly every week but I have to make a decision on how long we are going to wait for him. Do we wait for him or do we take his armbands off and throw him in the deep end?
"We have three games next week so some where along the lines we will get a look at Ryan."
Moore, who is set to check out Manchester United's reserves tonight, is still on the hunt for fresh blood and added: "We still need a little bit of pace in the team. We have Nicky Law in midfield and Ryan up front but we need some legs in the side."
Meanwhile, half-season tickets are on sale at Rotherham. The deal starts on Boxing Day and tickets are priced at 185 for adults, 115 for students, disabled and seniors and 50 for juniors.
