Lure of Westley just too strong for Millers striker to turn down
CHRIS Holroyd has revealed it was the lure of working with Graham Westley again which persuaded him to move to Preston North End.
The 25-year-old striker opted to quit Rotherham United yesterday and join the League One outfit for an undisclosed fee. He has agreed an 18-month contract at Deepdale and becomes Westley’s first signing since his appointment as manager last week.
Holroyd, brought in on a free transfer by Andy Scott last summer, having been released by Brighton and Hove Albion, has previously played under Westley during his time at Stevenage in 2010. In a three-month loan stint at Stevenage, Holroyd starred, claiming six goals in 12 starts.
But he struggled to hit top form for the Millers, who are in 11th position ahead of their meeting with Port Vale this afternoon, netting just once in 19 appearances.
Holroyd said: “It is a great club and when I heard about Preston’s interest I was absolutely delighted and I am happy everything has now been tied up.
“I know the manager from my time at Stevenage and I have always stayed in contact with Graham. When it came clear he was interested in my services, I couldn’t get over here quick enough.”
