Holroyd departs Millers
PRESTON North End have swooped to sign Rotherham United striker Chris Holroyd for an undisclosed fee.
The 25-year-old has agreed an an 18-month contract at Deepdale, having worked with Westley during his time at Stevenage in 2010.
In 19 appearances for the Millers, Holroyd bagged just one goal. It came on Bonfire Night against Aldershot.
Rotherham manager Andy Scott said: “Graham had Chris at Stevenage and he was the first person he contacted me about when he got the Preston job. After much deliberation we decided it was a deal that would benefit Chris and ourselves.
“As soon as Chris heard that there was interest, he seemed keen on the deal, as he lives close to the area. With the form of Alex Revell and Lewis Grabban we just felt it was an offer the club couldn’t turn down, and we would like to wish him all the best for the future.”
Meanwhile, former Millers assistant manager Barrie Claxton has passed away. He started his career at Leeds United and also played for Sheffield United before injuries took their toll and cut his career short.
He also worked as chief scout, youth coach and physio at Rotherham.
