Griffiths is happy to get a spot of stability

FOR Scott Griffiths the phrase “to the end of the season” in his latest loan arrangement would have been music to his ears.

The left back, most recently spending a month at Chesterfield, joined Rotherham United on loan from Peterborough thus ending any prospect that Jon Harley might be returning to the Millers’ colours.

“I have had a couple of spells out on loan but only for a month each time and so it’s nice to know I’ve the chance of being here for the rest of the season,” said the 25-year-old who helped Chesterfield to the League Two title last season.

“I started off the season at Peterborough, then it was off to Crawley and then I was back at Peterborough for a while before Chesterfield came calling and I had a month there.

“I was at Chesterfield most of last season, the club had success and it’s nice to stay in one place because travelling up and down can take a toll.”

Griffiths, who began his career at Dagenham where he made over 200 appearances, played twice against Rotherham last season in making 33 appearances in all for the Spireites.

Griffiths will have sizeable shoes to fill after Harley did well during his dozen appearances but Millers boss Andy Scott did hint after the former Blades and Chelsea man’s return to Notts County at the start of the month that he may not be coming back. A more likely return was of other loanee Sam Wood who does not figure in Brentford’s plans and Scott was confident he could bring him back.

There has been speculation linking the Millers with Bradford City’s 23-year-old left winger Jack Compton - an interest sparked after he played well against them in November which included the brilliant setting-up of a goal with classic wing play - but Scott was unlikely to bring in three left-sided players.
