Biker Briggs Hungary for more success

ROSSINGTON racing cyclist Graham Briggs returned from a stage race in Hungary yesterday, and is aiming to use his good form to take victory in the Colne Grand Prix in Lancashire tomorrow.

Briggs, part of the professional Rapha Condor-Recycling team, helped team-mate Kristian House to fourth spot overall in the three-stage GP Cycliste de Gemenc event in Hungary last weekend.

The event is a prestigious UCI-ranked race which attracted almost 200 riders from across the world, and less than half of the starting line-up completed the three days.

Briggs, one of eight Rapha Condor riders taking part, said: "Ben did well in the opening prologue time trial, so from then on we were all just working to keep him up there in the top placings."

The event began with a two kilometre time trial where Briggs was 39th, and the race them moved on to a 171-kilometre stage from Kaposvar to Szekard on Friday, before a 163-kilometre round stage from Szekszard and back.

"I'm just looking forward to riding the Colne Grand Prix, added Briggs.

Briggs is lying a close third in the National Elite Circuit Series, and a win at Colne could leave him well poised to take the overall competition when the final few rounds are staged later in the season.

Meanwhile, fellow Doncastrian Kevin Dawson was pushed out into second spot in the Yorkshire 10-Mile Time Trial at Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire. His time of 20min 52sec was only beaten by Barnsley racer Wayne Randle, who clocked 20-40 to successfully defend the title.
