It’s never easy following a popular player and that’s the case for Scott Shearer.
His biggest burden may be that he is the replacement for Andy Warrington who gave the club such excellent service and, remember, played over half the games during last season’s promotion campaign.
The fans loved Warrington throughout his six-year stay but no-one can go on forever and Steve Evans had decided that the future was to be in the hands of Shearer who had a big chunk of last season disrupted by injury.
Perhaps it was the fact that they saw Shearer as taking over from their favourite that the majority of fans never quite embraced the big man last season as willingly as they might have done.
What is surprising, however, is that he still seems to be fighting a battle to win over the majority.
