NEW central defender Michael Raynes played much of Rotherham United’s 4-1 win at Plymouth Argyle with a broken nose, boss Andy Scott revealed.

“He broke it in the first half but just got on with it as did Ryan Cresswell who got smashed on the nose and there was blood all over the place,” said Scott. “But they’re centre halves and you expect that and they carry on so I’m happy for them and quite like that.”

The win put Rotherham - who are at Crewe tomorrow - top of League Two after just two games and Scott described it as “an excellent performance.”

Gareth Evans, on his full debut, scored twice and so did Adam Le Fondre.
