MANAGER Andy Scott has challenged Tom Newey to force his way back into the first-team picture at Rotherham United.
The left-back had been an ever-present in the Millers starting line-up before being left out at Bristol Rovers as Scott decided to hand new recruit Jon Harley a start.
Newey was not even named on the substitutes bench at the Memorial Ground and is unlikely to feature against Shrewsbury Town tomorrow. Scott told The Star he dropped Newey because he felt his form had dipped in recent weeks.
“Tom has done well; he is fantastic in training and in and around the place and he was disappointed he did not play at Bristol,” said Scott.
“He is honest enough with himself to know that he has not performed at the levels he was doing at the beginning of the season. It doesn’t mean to say he can’t get back there. A couple of games out of the side might give him the opportunity to regain his form.”
