ROTHERHAM United suffered a third straight away defeat - going down to one of their promotion rivals - but still clung onto the third automatic promotion place in League Two.
“We missed the chance to open a gap on Port Vale and even a draw would have kept four points between us. Instead they’ve gone a point behind us,” said manager Ronnie Moore after the 1-0 defeat. “It was frustrating because we coped defensively but the five lads we expect to create for us ... well, we didn’t see them really.
“Alf (Adam le Fondre) had the best chance of the night and had that gone in then I think their crowd would have turned on them and we would have gone on from there.
“The goal that beat us was a great finish, nothing we could have done really.
“We worked hard enough but we’ve huffed and puffed really and our attacking efforts didn’t prove good enough.”
