ROTHERHAM United are set to appeal over the sending off of left back Tom Newey in the goalless draw with Barnet.

“It happened right in front of me and I thought at the time the sending off was a joke,” said Millers manager Ronnie Moore.

“The lad said Tom threw a punch. Well, I didn’t see that and if I had seen a punch then he’d have been fined.

“I’ve since checked out the video of the incident and there’s no punch so I just want the ref to be honest when he sees it again because we are going to appeal.

“Tom was trying to get the ball off their lad who kept holding on to it and he pushed him as he tried to knock the ball out of his hand and it was ridiculous how their lad went down.”

Referee Geoff Eltringham - for whom this was a 12th red card in 23 games - said the sending off was for “violent conduct” and didn’t wish to elaborate but, when asked if a punch had been thrown, said there had been.
