STEVE Evans has ruled out the possibility of signing a new goalkeeper during the January transfer window despite confirming Scott Shearer will be out of action for a month with an elbow problem.

Glasgow-born shot-stopper Shearer, who has not featured since the 3-0 defeat at home to Southend United in mid-October, went under the knife yesterday for his elbow injury.

But Evans has told The Star he has no intention of strengthening the goalkeeping department as the Millers bid to get back on track at home to Barnet this weekend following their FA Cup exit.

“I don’t need to sign a new goalkeeper,” he said. “It is a shame for Scott [Shearer] but we have been hammered by injuries all season.”

Left-back Liam Ridehalgh, on loan from Huddersfield Town, is set to remain with Rotherham for the rest of the season while Aston Villa winger Courtney Cameron will also stay with the club for a further month.

Youngsters Alec Denton and Mitch Rose have joined Stanford on a month’s loan. The duo trained with the Northern Premier League Division One club yesterday.
