Rotherham United: Start spreading the’s a gift from New York

Have your say

THERE was a fitting first gift for the New York Stadium this week - a painting of New York by a fan from Rotherham!

Club chairman Tony Stewart received it this week from lifelong supporter Richard Tong who owned it but felt the new ground was an appropriate place for it.

Local artist Mel Davies, from Brinsworth, did the canvas painting with its view from Central Park when he was in New York in 2008.

“I discussed it with Mel and we both felt the New York Stadium would be an ideal home for it,” said Richard.

“When I approached Tony Stewart about giving it to the club I was delighted when he instantly welcomed the idea and embraced it.”

Said Tony: “It’s a marvellous gesture and we will certainly have it adorning a wall in one of the suites.

“We really are experiencing a feelgood factor among our supporters now we are back and this sort of gesture typifies the goodwill being generated towards the club.”
