ROTHERHAM United are set to name their ninth signing of the summer just a day after allowing three of their current squad to seek a new club.
The Millers have agreed a deal with a left-back and just need to finalise the paperwork before making the move official.
Manager Steve Evans had said he wanted to bring in 10 new faces to the New York Stadium, with the final signing believed to be a striker.
However, centre back Ryan Cresswell, midfielder Danny Schofield and goalkeeper Jamie Annerson have been told by Evans they are ‘free to further their career elsewhere’. Evans circulated their names to clubs across the Football League after meeting individually with them to tell them they are free to move on.
“The lads have been offered the opportunity to further their careers elsewhere,” Evans told the Millers’ website.
“Basically what I have said to the lads is that we don’t see them getting the first-team football that perhaps they would expect.”
“We have to be open with them; they have the options now to move on permanently, we are not going to entertain anybody taking them on loan.”
All three are under contract and will report for pre-season training at Parkgate on July 2 if they haven’t moved on to other clubs.
