ROTHERHAM United manager Steve Evans believes that if his team are going to achieve automatic promotion to League One it will go down to the wire.
The Millers, who trail third-placed Northampton Town by four points, head to Morecambe today searching for just their third win in nine league outings.
Evans, who is sweating over the fitness of Claude Davis (dead leg) and midfielder Lee Frecklington (illness), expects the battle to go up to go right down to the final round of matches.
“People talked about the target being 80 points for automatic promotion but perhaps it won’t be as many as 80,” he said. “Some teams have got to play each other so they’ll be taking points off each other.
“Some games look as if they’ll be three points but when you are playing a team at the bottom at this time of the season, they are fighting for their lives and you gets upsets. I think it will go to the last day.”
Kieran Agard is pressing for a first-team recall after his hat-trick for the reserves in midweek while Michael O’Connor and Ben Pringle caught the eye as substitutes at Gillingham.
