The Star’s Millers’ man, Paul Davis, assessess the performances at New York Stadium.

ROTHERHAM (4-4-1-1)

RICHARD O’DONNELL 7

Some sharp shot-stopping again. That side of his game has become excellent. More command of his area required.

DARNELL FISHER 7

Has finished the season pretty well. Defensively, did his job, and looked to get forward when he could.

SEMI AJAYI 8

Man of the match for me. Hardly put a foot wrong. He should be a big, big player in League One.

RICHARD WOOD 7

Last year, Wood said David Nugent was the best striker he played against all season, but he didn’t give him a kick here.

JOE MATTOCK 7

Another player who has closed the season in consistent form. Quality cross for Frecklington’s goal.

LEE FRECKLINGTON 7

A trademark goal and plenty of energy from the captain who thought the penalty award against him was harsh.

WILL VAULKS 7

Looks good at right-back, prefers midfield. In midfield here. Has stepped up his game a notch in recent weeks. Competed well.

RICHIE SMALLWOOD 7

I won’t be alone in hoping he’s offered a new deal. Calm passing, good tackling and always in the right place off the ball.

JON TAYLOR 6

Didn’t last long before going off injured but had already shown he could be a danger down the left flank.

TOM ADEYEMI 5

Quiet day from one of Rotherham’s key players. Let’s hope he makes his loan deal permanent. He won’t thank Clarke-Harris for not passing to him when a clear run on goal beckoned.

JONSON CLARKE-HARRIS 5

Not the threat or force he was at Preston eight days earlier. Could have possibly helped seal the game by giving the ball to Adeyemi.

Substitutes

BEN PURRINGTON 6

On for Taylor after 13 minutes and his contribution in an unfamiliar left-midfield role drew praise from Warne. Went off with a tight hamstring.

DARNELLE BAILEY-KING

The young academy product replaced Purrington in the 76th minute. Pace to burn. We might see more of him next season.

Subs not used: Bilboe, Morris, Belaid, Bray, Yates.

DERBY (4-1-2-3): Carson 7; Baird 6, Keogh 6, Pearce 6, Olsson 7; Butterfield 5; Bryson 6 (Hughes H-T, 7), Johnson 6; Ince 6, Nugent 5 (Blackman 78), Russell 6 (Bent 56, 6). Subs not used: Mitchell, Christie, Anya, Vydra.
