The Star’s Millers man, Paul Davis, assesses the performances in the 1-1 draw at Deepdale.

ROTHERHAM (4-4-1-1)

RICHARD O’DONNELL 7

Another assured performance until he fluffed a catch which allowed Simon Makienok to hit the bar with a header late on. Excellent kicking.

DARNELL FISHER 7

Overall, pretty solid stuff in defence from the right-back. Took no risks but offered no real threat going forward.

SEMI AJAYI 7

Steady. He and Richard Wood kept Jordan Hugill and Stevie May quiet, apart from the May wonder-goal they could do nothing about.

RICHARD WOOD 8

Two brilliant blocks typified a really resolute defensive performance from Wood and co.

JOE MATTOCK 7

Bought into the Wood way. Some terrific challenges. Not scared to risk being hurt.

LEE FRECKLINGTON 6

Surprise return for the midfielder thought to be out for the season and showed his trademark industry.

WILL VAULKS 6

Competed hard and produced the ball that gave Wood his header on goal. Just lacks the ‘zip’ a Championship midfielder needs.

RICHIE SMALLWOOD 7

Great goal. Worked hard. Plugged gaps. Sees what’s happening and responds the right way.

JON TAYLOR 6

Got his supply wrong far too often, but his workrate and liveliness always ask questions of the opposition. Fast feet. Needs to be a bit slower in his head.

TOM ADEYEMI 6

The man who can’t seem to miss these days kept missing! Always looking to work his way into dangerous positions.

JONSON CLARKE-HARRIS 8

Led the line well on his first start of the season. Too good for Preston in the air and too strong on the ground. One or two powerful runs and set up an Adeyemi chance with a deft header.
