Boss Steve Evans has ruled out Rotherham United returns for loan duo Adam Hammill and Lawrie Wilson.

Winger Hammill and utility man Wilson finished the Championship campaign with the Millers but the manager is now pursuing other options.

“Adam just couldn’t break into the team,” he said, “If you’re a wide player and you come off the bench and change a game, then some supporters would expect you to be playing. But, for me, was he going to start in front of Ben Pringle or Lee Frecklington or Paul Green or people like that? The answer was, no, he wasn’t.”

Hammill spent four months at AESSEAL New York Stadium, while Wilson joined Rotherham on the eve of the Sheffield Wednesday derby in March, making just three starts, against the Owls, Birmingham City and Leeds United.

“Lawrie is a player I’ve always liked. I think he’s a right-back. We deployed him in midfield. I got that wrong at Birmingham,” Evans said. “We signed him on the basis that we thought Jack Hunt was out for the season. We had a chance to take Lawrie before he went somewhere else, and the early indications were that Jack wouldn’t play again.”
