Rotherham United tomorrow come up against a £1.5 million striker they tried to sign in the summer.
The Millers wanted to add Lucas Jutkiewicz to their Championship frontline, but the 27-year-old opted to leave Premier League Burnley for Birmingham City on loan.
Jutkiewicz has scored three times in seven outings for the Blues and is expected to be in their squad when Alan Stubbs’ men travel to St Andrews tomorrow night looking to avoid a sixth successive defeat.
“There was an interest. Obviously, financially it was difficult for us,” manager Stubbs said.
“I know him really well. He is a great lad. He is a handful, so we are going to be tested. He is someone we really need to take a close look at.
“He has gone to Birmingham and fitted in really well. He is a good addition, no doubt about that. He is proven at this level, but hopefully we can keep him quiet tomorrow.”
The forward, whose previous clubs include Coventry City, Middlesbrough and Bolton Wanderers, was on Everton’s books while Stubbs was coaching at Goodison Park.
He cost Burnley £1.5m when they signed him two years ago from Boro.
Meanwhile, the bottom-placed Millers are confident of having centre-half Dominic Ball available for the Birmingham clash, despite the 21-year-old suffering a foot injury in last Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Norwich City.
“Dominic got a stamp on the top of his foot but he’ll be fine,” Stubbs confirmed.
