Last season’s top scorer Daniel Nardiello is set to get his first piece of action for Rotherham United this afternoon.
Nardiello was called up to the first team squad for the first time this season at Crawley on Saturday but he was an unused substitute.
However, he is lined up to make a start when the Millers reserves go to Scunthorpe this afternoon.
The striker pulled a hamstring in the pre-season friendly against Huddersfield on July 20. On his way back ten days later, he tweaked it again and this set him back.
But he proved he was ready to return late last week and manager Steve Evans put him on the bench.
The game will also see Danny Hylton, one of the summer signings who has yet to appear, continue his recovery from a back injury. He played for the reserves last week and scored a penalty but has yet to figure for the first team and Evans did not consider him ready for the game at Crawley last week.
“We’ll play those in the squad who need the game and to help them get up to speed,” said Evans.
Also likely to need an outing at some stage is big defender Claude Davis who has been on the sidelines after starting the season at Crewe before being taken off.
“The biggest compliment to the way the two lads at the back (Craig Morgan and Kari Arnason) are playing is that Claude is sitting on the bench,” said manager Steve Evans.
“I believe in playing former players at their old clubs and so Claude was a candidate because of that last Saturday at Crawley but the fact is, we could not change, the lads in there have done well and shown a lot of heart and desire.”
Evans reported no fresh injury worries ahead of Saturday’s home game with Shrewsbury Town.
Tickets for the Capital One Cup tie at Aston Villa a week tomorrow went on sale to season ticket holders on Friday. They go on general sale on Thursday. Villa allow no ticket sales on the day.
