ROTHERHAM United boss Steve Evans was still talking about new signings yesterday, just 48 hours before their season kicks off at Hull City.

The Millers manager had a meeting lined up with chairman Tony Stewart over a possible future signing, understood to be a striker.

“He’s not someone whose name has cropped up before,” said Evans. “But nothing beats competition for places.”

However, he said that he didn’t expect anything to happen even before the first league game against Burton a week on Saturday.

The Millers head for Hull and the Capital One Cup tie - Steve Bruce’s first game in charge - with just Nicky Hunt and Dale Tonge unavailable.

Michael O’Connor had his first full 90 minutes in the 3-1 win at Stamford on Tuesday.
