The prize of promotion to The Championship for Rotherham United would be worth some £4 million.
That’s the estimate put on it by Millers chairman Tony Stewart ahead of Sunday’s League One Play-off Final with Leyton Orient.
“It’s what we all want, to seize this opportunity and go up,” he said. “It would be a challenge but one that we would welcome.
“Yes, it would be a big step forward. It would mean more income and more expenditure but I want to achieve and that money would go towards making a better Rotherham United, a better team, better facilities.
“I’m insatiable, I don’t have a contentment base. I tend to think that anything is achievable with the right preparation, the right professional team behind you.
“And if we did go up then I’ve no doubt I’d be wanting to go to the Premier League. You have to go for the pinnacle of success.
Meanwhile, manager Steve Evans has his first signing lined up and it could be announced today.
