ROTHERHAM United are believed to be interested in Scunthorpe midfielder Michael O’Connor.
The 24-year-old, who has been capped 10ntimes by Northern Ireland, is understood to have been among the many targets identified by Millers boss Steve Evans.
He is aiming to add at least another four signings to the four he has already landed and O’Connor is understood to have had talks with the Millers who could be close to a deal providing personal terms can be agreed. There would be no fee involved.
It is understood Evans is set to announce his fifth signing shortly, quite possibly today. No names have been revealed but there is speculation that it will be a winger.
O’Connor is a central midfield player and the sort of playmaker that has probably been identified among the requirements for next season.
He played in The Championship with Scunthorpe and was a regular for the Iron in League One this season until January.
He was later kept out of the side by Josh Walker, a former loan player at Rotherham.
He joined Scunthorpe from Crewe for £200,000 three years ago and is out of contract.
He was offered a new deal but turned it down.
