ROTHERHAM United expect to confirm a new signing today.

The player, a defender, watched Saturday’s 4-0 win over Bradford City and manager Steve Evans expects it to happen.

“He is a player coming out of a contract situation,” said Evans.

He also said that a deal was set up to break the club’s transfer record but the player did not want to move north and said they were also very close to a loan signing but the player got injured in training.

“I have to sign players who will add something to what we’ve got and have to put people in that dressing room so that players will lift their eyebrows when they see them,” he said.

He also revealed that the club turned down an offer from a Championship club for Gareth Evans who scored two against his former club on Saturday.

Evans is expected to make some changes for tomorrow’s home game with York City in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy which has an earlier kick off at 7.30pm. Kari Arnason is away on international duty.
