Rotherham United hope to sign two more players before the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.

Manager Steve Evans has trimmed the size of his squad - with winger Ryan Hall the latest to leave, joining Luton Town - in readiness for the new arrivals.

“We’re desperately trying but we don’t just want any players. We want the right players,” he said.

“We’re in a chain with one so we’re waiting on that. The other one, we’re trying to persuade his club to let him come out.

“One’s a defensive-minded player, the other is an attacking-minded player.

“If they come in, that will be the squad and then we’ll go forward.”

High-flying Ipswich Town are the visitors to AESSEAL New York Stadium next Saturday.

Rotherham are unbeaten in their last two matches, having beaten Bolton Wanderers at home and drawing at Charlton on Saturday.

“We’ve embraced the Championship now. We should have won today,” Evans said.

Striker Matt Derbyshire came close at The Valley to adding to his first Championship goal for the club in midweek against Wanderers but his second-half effort was ruled out for offside.

Evans praised his forward and said the effort should have been allowed.

“He’re playing with a belief,” he said.

“We told him we were going to give him some games. We trusted him to score goals, and I thought Matt today covered every blade of grass. He should be going away from here with a goal and Danny Ward should have had the winner not the equaliser.”

Former Millers left-back Joe Skarz made a winning debut for Oxford United as they triumphed 2-0 at Stevenage. Rotherham right-back Richared Brindley made his loan debut alongside Skarz, ex-Miller Johnny Mullins was among the scorers and former New York striker Danny Hylton also played.
