Steve Evans admitted that he got it wrong last Saturday, at least for the first 45 minutes.
Getting it exactly right this week might not be the easiest for the Rotherham United manager in view of the choices confronting him over selection ahead of next weekend’s home game with Oldham Athletic.
After the win over Sheffield United, it must be tempting for Evans to leave well alone. He did just that after the Capital One Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday by naming the same side a few days later. The difference this weekend is that he has his two internationals available again, Michael O’Connor and Kari Arnason (who played for Iceland who came from 4-1 down to draw 4-4 at group leaders Switzerland).
Assuming they return unscathed from tonight’s qualifiers, Arnason obviously having recovered from the slight pull which forced him off at Notts County recently, then Evans has decisions to get right.
O’Connor has been in excellent form in midfield recently. Likewise, Arnason has slotted in at the back to form a sound alliance with Craig Morgan.
But with Morgan a doubt after twisting his ankle against the Blades, perhaps one decision is eased for Evans as Arnason would slot straight in there.
Getting it right over recalling O’Connor would eventually be judged on the result! Does he leave him out and stick with two up front? Or play him, leave one out and revert to the recent formation of recent weeks.
Right or wrong, it’s tricky.
