MIDFIELDER Michael O’Connor will continue his push for a regular starting place in Rotherham United’s line-up this afternoon.
Yet to have a full game for the first team, O’Connor is scheduled to have a full 90 minutes in today’s opening Central League fixture against Bury at Parkgate (3pm), a game brought forward a day.
O’Connor joined from Scunthorpe as a major challenger for a midfield spot but a groin injury restricted his pre-season build-up and he missed the opening two friendlies.
He played 45 minutes against Hearts, briefly against Sheffield United and then was in the starting line-up for the opening day against Burton.
He played for 65 minutes and a similar amount of time at Northampton but was an unused sub at Chesterfield.
“We all acknowledge Michael has got fantastic ability, but he lacks a little bit of match sharpness and we need to get him up to match speed,” said manager Steve Evans, who is likely to look at a left-back on trial today.
Rotherham expect another five-figure home crowd when Bradford City visit New York Stadium on Saturday.
