Rotherham United Ladies began their 2014-15 FA Women’s Premier League Midlands Division One season with a 4-1 home victory over Curzon Ashton, writes Julian Barker.
Sunday’s goals were shared equally between Amy Pollock and Natalie Shaw (pictured in blue).
When the teams met in a corresponding fixture a year ago, both were in the Midland Combination and an entertaining encounter ended 0-0 despite both sides having several chances.
During the summer, the FAWPL was expanded to embrace the four Combination Leagues, so Rotherham remain at the same level of the women’s pyramid.
This Sunday, Rotherham play host to holders Sheffield FC Ladies in the preliminary round of the League Cup.
Sheffield are also the FAWPL Northern Division champions and so will go into the tie at the Rawmarsh-based Roundwood Sports Complex as firm favourites.
Sheffield began their Northern Division campaign with a 2-0 home win over Coventry City last Sunday with former Rotherham striker Suzanne Davies opening the scoring.
Meanwhile, Rotherham have revived their Development Team for 2014-15.
They will be competing in Sheffield & Hallamshire Women’s County Football League Division Three, playing their home games at Phoenix Sports Club on Bawtry Road.
Their first game will be on September 14.
